Psychotherapy and coaching serve different purposes, though they both aim to improve an individual’s well-being and relationships.

Here’s how they differ:

1. Purpose:
Psychotherapy- Focuses on mental health issues, emotional difficulties, and psychological disorders. It’s aimed at helping individuals cope with and resolve deep-seated problems, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, or relationship issues. The goal is to promote overall mental health and well-being.

Coaching- Concentrates on improving dating and relationship skills. The focus is on practical advice, strategies for finding a partner, and navigating the complexities of your relationship with yourself and others. It is more about achieving specific goals in one’s life rather than addressing underlying psychological issues.

2. Scope:
Psychotherapy- Can be broad and deep, covering a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges. It often explores past experiences, thought patterns, and behaviors to understand and change them.

Coaching-Is more targeted and goal-oriented. It typically addresses present and future behaviors, helping participants to be more confident, improve communication, and make better choices in relationships.

3. Approach:
Psychotherapy- Often involves exploring the root causes of issues, which can include discussing past traumas, unresolved conflicts, and deep emotional experiences. Utilizing specific treatment modalities and techniques.

Coaching-Is more action-oriented and focuses on providing specific advice, strategies, and techniques to succeed in. It may include role-playing, communication skills training, and personalized feedback on profiles and interactions.

4. Duration and Frequency:
Psychotherapy- Often involves long-term, regular sessions (e.g., weekly or bi-weekly) over months or years, depending on the nature of the issues being addressed.

Coaching-May be shorter-term, with sessions focused on achieving specific goals. The frequency and duration are usually more flexible and vary based on individual needs.

Sessions should be canceled or rescheduled at least twenty-four (24) hours in advance. A fee equivalent to fifty percent (50%) of the session cost will be charged for any sessions that are canceled or rescheduled less than twelve (12) hours before the scheduled session time. Failure to provide advance notice for non-emergency session cancellations will incur a fine equivalent to one hundred percent (100%) of the session cost.
